The Dangers of Paid or Anonymous Sex

Published by Janio Sarmento under Uncategorized

I really can’t talk about paid sex, except by exercising my imagination, because I never had such experience in my life, and I hope to stay just like I am right now regarding this matter. However, it is not hard to imagine that money is just a detail, and the same rule that apply to the latter applies also to the former.

It wouldn’t be rational trying to summarize in a short article every reason one could look for anonymous sex, but assuming I am writing for my personal blog, a few points must be enough.

Why it’s sucking to be a mistress

Published by Janio Sarmento under Uncategorized

I’ve been wondering about relationships those days. Now I found myself thinking about how horrible a mistress could feel sometimes, because of her position. I was able to point out a few reasons why I would hate to be a mistress (or a lover, since I am not a woman, and I am not Chico Buarque, who is able to put his anima on his lyrics in the form of a female narrator).

Emotional Infidelity

Published by Janio Sarmento under Uncategorized

Perhaps because I am in the middle of an emotional shift, from partnered to single again, some thoughts have been more and more present in my mind, sometimes allowing me some insights that never before would make any sense to me.

Specifically, I’ve been thinking of infidelity, open relationships, free sex (as in “freedomâ€Â, not as in “free beerâ€Â), and so on. In fact, I’ve been asking myself what constitutes infidelity, if fidelity is only sexual exclusivity, or what is there beyond the sex act outside the committed relationship.

Lucky me, because this is a personal blog, and all I have to do, if I want, is to write about what makes senses to me. I say this because it is not easy to answer such questioning in a satisfactory way, if you intend to be precise, exact. There is a wide variation on the concept of what is acceptable, people have different personal and moral values, thus they have very different perspectives of life and relationships. But since I am writing to tell people what I do think, I am allowed to be imprecise.

The Online Dating Scene

Published by Janio Sarmento under Uncategorized

A couple days ago I wrote a fiction article about a guy that has an awful day, which ends with him and his girlfriend breaking their relationship. I didn’t detail their lives together, but an aware reader easily would figure out that they had a stable relationship, since they lived in the same house.

Well, those facts never happened, but every fiction text has something to do with its author’s life, and in my case, my most recent relationship (I hope it was not the last one) ended in a not so comfortable way, and I am getting acquainted again to the single way of life.

Blessed be the ‘Discard’ GMail Button

Published by Janio Sarmento under Uncategorized

Since I got my GMail invitation (sorry, but I can’t remember who was the generous soul that heard all my prays) it has become my main e-mail software. I’ve fallen in love with threaded conversations, labels, effective spam detection and so much space for my attachments (in this very order). Then I met some Greasemonkey userscripts that give GMail the few powers it wasn’t born with, and voilà ! It is almost perfect. With Google Apps for Domains I finally made true the dream of having GMail running on my sarmento.org domain.

AdSpyTracker: a superb tool

Published by Janio Sarmento under Uncategorized

A couple days ago I was invited by Matt Callen, from AdSpyTracker, to write a short testimonial about the superb script I bought from him in December. I enjoyed the idea so much that I decided to use the inspiration and write a more detailed review here, in case there is someone that can benefit from what I have to say.

Does Wikipedia deserve a “payback”?

Published by Janio Sarmento under Uncategorized

Manoel Netto, from Tecnocracia blog, wrote an interesting article and a related WordPress plugin aiming to give Wikipedia a “payback” due to the fact that all of its external links now have a rel=”nofollow” attribute automatically.

Te rel=nofollow thing was created in 2005, I think, in order to fight comment spam. If a link has the nofollow attribute, then the search engine crawlers know that you, the site author, does not endorse that external link, what implies the spam sites will not benefit from the PageRank or “good neighborhood” viewpoint.

Is problogging really bad?

Published by Janio Sarmento under Uncategorized

The so called ‘Blogosphere’ has been inundated by a new hype: the problogger invasion. Everyone wants to be a problogger nowadays. Lots of people want to pay their bills by blogging. They want to live in permanent vacations. They want the glory and the women (or not).

But, what is the actual impact of problogging on the credibility of the ‘Blogosphere’? What is going to happen with that idea of an independent kind of media, that does not owe anything to a sponsor, and for this reason would rather write what people actually think instead of what the sponsor wants?
