Emotional Infidelity
Perhaps because I am in the middle of an emotional shift, from partnered to single again, some thoughts have been more and more present in my mind, sometimes allowing me some insights that never before would make any sense to me.
Specifically, I’ve been thinking of infidelity, open relationships, free sex (as in “freedomâ€Â, not as in “free beerâ€Â), and so on. In fact, I’ve been asking myself what constitutes infidelity, if fidelity is only sexual exclusivity, or what is there beyond the sex act outside the committed relationship.
Lucky me, because this is a personal blog, and all I have to do, if I want, is to write about what makes senses to me. I say this because it is not easy to answer such questioning in a satisfactory way, if you intend to be precise, exact. There is a wide variation on the concept of what is acceptable, people have different personal and moral values, thus they have very different perspectives of life and relationships. But since I am writing to tell people what I do think, I am allowed to be imprecise.

The Online Dating Scene
A couple days ago I wrote a fiction article about a guy that has an awful day, which ends with him and his girlfriend breaking their relationship. I didn’t detail their lives together, but an aware reader easily would figure out that they had a stable relationship, since they lived in the same house.
Well, those facts never happened, but every fiction text has something to do with its author’s life, and in my case, my most recent relationship (I hope it was not the last one) ended in a not so comfortable way, and I am getting acquainted again to the single way of life.

Blessed be the ‘Discard’ GMail Button
Since I got my GMail invitation (sorry, but I can’t remember who was the generous soul that heard all my prays) it has become my main e-mail software. I’ve fallen in love with threaded conversations, labels, effective spam detection and so much space for my attachments (in this very order). Then I met some Greasemonkey userscripts that give GMail the few powers it wasn’t born with, and voilà ! It is almost perfect. With Google Apps for Domains I finally made true the dream of having GMail running on my sarmento.org domain.

That’s why I dislike pictures
My parents were not used to take photographs from us, neither was easy to find pictures from anyone at our home. So I grew up, with no habit of taking pictures, but with a kind of “lack†that lead me to be addicted to photographic cameras.

It must have been an Angel
I was sixteen when I decided to turn my own power switch off. Yes, I’m talking about killing myself. I was not able to handle all the pressure a teenager has to deal with, and despite the huge amount of information I’ve been intoxicated with for a long while, sadness and lack of hope were constant.

A day in the life of a problogger
Okay, now that I got your attention, I must say that I am not, actually, a problogger, because I don’t make a living just from my blogs. But I’m on my way, and at least half of my money I earn by blogging.

What’s a teacher for
I’m still able to remember those far, far away days when I first met a computer. It was a “Craft ][â€Â, a Brazilian Apple IIe clone. While my fellows were enjoying themselves playing Karateka (that was cinematographic, if you consider the Atari 2600 version) I was playing with my first BASIC statements, and worse (for the teachers’ opinion): I was eager to know what was there inside that box.

Missing (someone else’s) past
There is a long time since I started trying to learn English. I never thought, however, that someday I would dare writing in English (despite the fact that once I went to Languages School).
Since I’m not really an English speaker, be prepared to find mistakes, misconstructions, nonsense and several other classes of ineptitude in commanding this language. And, of course, poverty of vocabulary. too.
And the first subject I choose to write about is not easy to translate to another language: in Portuguese “saudadeâ€Â; in English “nostalgiaâ€Â, perhaps.
